The brief for this project was to replace a sun room to the side of the rear return with a new extension. Making the most of natural light and views into the garden were important client requirements.
The new pitched-roof extension is placed along side the existing return to create a new single open-plan space for the new kitchen, dining area and a seating/play area.
The kitchen is placed within the new extension with its sloping ceiling following that of the pitched roof above. Windows are provided on 3 sides bringing in direct sunlight throughout the day. Rooflights are also included on the south facing roof slope. The kitchen island is positioned on axis with the high point of the ceiling for a bright and airy kitchen with access out to the garden via bi-fold doors.
A new utility room is concealed beside the kitchen with separate direct access to the side passage.
Externally, the new extension has a zinc roof and is finished in brick, to match the finish of the existing house.
Sketch Design completed.
